Poco Adds Comedy to the Menu
A Prescot coffee shop is offering good food and plenty of laughter as it brings something new to the town centre’s nightlife next month.
After testing the waters with several evening events, Poco Coffee is offering audiences a line-up of five brilliantly funny stand-up comedians for just a fiver on 25 September.
This latest gig follows a sold-out acoustic night at June’s Prescot Festival.
“We always wanted to tap into local arts, culture and entertainment when we arrived in Prescot two years ago,” said owner Richard Sutton, “and after seeing the place come alive for the festival, we couldn’t resist offering another helping of live entertainment hot on its heels.”
Comics Nina Gilligan and Jimmy O (star of BBC2’s Funny Business) headline this first ever Prescot Comedy Night, with support from Kenny Mills, Craig Bennett and Eddie Fortune.
The eatery’s piping hot signature scouse will be on the menu, alongside the usual snacks, teas and specialty coffees.
“There aren’t many places locally offering stand-up comedy,” continued Rich, “so we’re hoping the line-up will attract those who want something a bit different.
“And there’s no need to miss out on your Friday night pint or a few glasses of wine, as we’ll be operating a licensed bar for the night.
“At a pound per comedy act, you’d be a fool to miss out.”
The doors open at 7.30pm on Friday 25 September, and food and drink will be served until 8.30pm, when the entertainment begins.
Tickets are available from the venue: Poco Coffee, 30 Eccleston Street, Prescot, L34 5QJ. Tel. 0151 426 8393.
